My Two Cents - Part 2
Mood:  quizzical
Now Playing: Things That Make You Go Hmmmmmmmm
My 2 Cents

Well, it took me a while to do the second article; I’ll try to do better in the future.

This will be a mish-mash of things that are ticking me off lately. Well, maybe not ticking me off, but things that are annoying, that amuses me, that is just strange to me.

This “nuclear option” thing in Congress. I find it funny that the Republicans are pushing it so hard. I guess that they forgot about how they took power from a Democratic controlled Congress in the early 1990’s. The Democrats thought that they were too powerful to be taken down. Little did they know that a guy from Georgia, named Newt Gingrich, would be the guy to cut their legs out from under them. I guess they don’t think anything can happen to them, not the way it happened to the opposition many years ago. My advice to Senators Frist, DeLay and Hastert: Read Santayana! "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Life of Reason, Reason in Common Sense, Scribner's, 1905, page 284

The other thing I find amusing is that during a recent press event over this mess, why were their four Reverends speaking out on it? What do they have to do with it? They aren’t members of Congress, just another example of the Republicans and their love of the Religious Right. Don’t those Reverends have more important things to concern themselves with? Like child molesting Priests and those who were molested? Like declining attendance in many churches? (No butts in the pews, no money to pay the Reverends!) How about dealing with the homeless, the illiterate, poverty, pregnant teenagers or so many other things that are more important? Nope, we gotta stick our noses into Politics. Somebody explain this to me.

Please tell me that I am not the only one on the planet who doesn’t care if he ever hears about Brittany Spears ever again. If the ground opened up and swallowed her whole, I would not shed a tear. The same for either of the Simpson sisters, Paris Hilton & Nicole Ritchie, Lindsay Lohan and her drunken father, Hillary Duff, and all the rest of them! Who cares! I remember when Entertainment Tonight gave us REAL entertainment news and not mindless drivel on what kind of dress the above were wearing at some awards show.

Am I the only one who is concerned that Cuban Terrorist Luis Posada Carriles was able to slip into this country and show up in Miami so easily? This is a man who admits to killing an Italian tourist during a bombing in Havana. Who is responsible for blowing up a plane full of innocents? Where is our Border Patrol? What is Homeland Security doing? Besides counting how many matchbooks you have? This is an embarrassment to our security, but nobody seems to be too upset that an internationally wanted terrorist is able to just pull up to a boat dock in South Florida, get off the boat and walk around like he lives there.

Well, that is all for now, like I said above, I will try to stop being lazy and spout off more often. Until then, your comments are always welcome.

My Two Cents - In the beginning
Mood:  not sure
Now Playing: Serial Killers in the Cub Scouts
My Two Cents
By Jim Woodward

You know how the Boy Scouts are allowed to discriminate against Gays and Atheists? Gotta keep them from recruiting and molesting the young boys! And we gotta keep them Godless heathens away from the kids too!

In addition, you are aware of the battles going on across the country as state and local governments are withholding funding because of this discrimination.

Well, once again, we find out that their fears are without merit. It turns out that for the past 31 years, the Wichita, Kansas police have been looking the person known as the BTK killer. The BTK stands for "Bind, Torture, Kill". Nice guy. Seems he did the BTK thing to ten people, starting in the 1970's.

Dennis Rader, arrested this week, was a Cub Scout troop leader, an active member of his Lutheran Church and a code enforcement officer in the Wichita suburb of Park City.

Now remember this the next time someone starts bashing Gays and Lesbians over the legal discrimination the Supreme Court lets the Boy Scouts of America continue. Next time someone starts saying Gay men should not be allowed to work with the young boys because they might do something bad to them. Even though the FBI statistics show that 90%+ of child molesters are heterosexual and related to the victim.

I find it strange that the Boy Scouts will not allow a willing volunteer, who happens to be Gay, from helping young men grow up properly. However, it is OK for serial murderers to help instruct the boys in making knots.

Can you see all of the press releases that will be flying out of the Boy Scouts of America's Dallas headquarters this week; talking about how they had no idea Dennis was doing the BTK thing over 30 years. In addition, they still will not allow Gays or Atheists to work with the troops.

Shame how these things work out.
